Catch me if you can |
||
When someone has had everything taken away from him, he tends to measure his success by how much of his life he can regain. There is no better motivator than necessity, and nothing fans the flames of necessity like an arrest warrant. Catch me if you can is the story of Frank W. Abagnale (Leonardo Dicaprio), a seventeen year old with nowhere to go and nothing more than Yankee ingenuity, who manages turn check forgery into an art form and a legitimate multi-million dollar business. |

| Sound impossible? Apparently not, as unbelievable as it may seem, the "Great Imposter" cached over $2 million in fraudulent checks during a five year period that began when he was only sixteen years old. During that time, he forged his credentials and posed as an airline pilot, an attorney and a doctor. |

The detective, Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) establishes contact with Abagnale while on his trail. Hanratty and Abagnale quickly develop a co-dependence that pulls the story to its conclusion. After all, the detective chasing him is the only person who knows and accepts the imposter him for who he really is. Abagnale must have had difficulty establishing relationships with anyone except for the people who where trying to send him to jail. On the other hand, Federal agents wouldn't be agents if they didn't have criminals to catch. Catching Abagnale becomes Hanratty's personal quest. Without one, we cannot have the other. His reckless thievery and abuse of the public trust can be put aside, for every time Abagnale cashes another phony check, he strikes a blow for the modern proletariat. |
